Our Story
Free Flight and Friendship
NYAA was founded by Free Flight Hall of Fame members, Sevak Malkhaysan and Tim Batiuk, who first met when Tim found young Sevak's model plane that flew away on a field at his first ever FAI competition. What followed was decades of friendship and a vision of teaching aeromodeling to the next generation.
Our Mission
The mission of the National Youth Aviation Academy is to ignite a passion for aviation through hands-on experiences and an extensive aviation curriculum. All members will learn the essential aspects of flight and develop winning strategies in a team sports environment. Our organization is committed to serving youth and their families, and offers leadership opportunities! The NYAA is home to multiple Free Flight Aviation National and World Champions including all current USA Junior Free Flight Team members, families, and Managers!

Our Vision & Goal
The purpose of NYAA is to help kids develop higher level thinking skills, develop resilience, and learn the importance of working as a member of a team to achieve a collective goal. This is achieved through the fun sport of free flight aviation where kids participate in STEM activities ranging from building and flying a catapult glider to successfully operating a high-performance FAI airplane.
